This image represents what a person with dyslexia's mind sees when they are reading. As you can tell it is almost impossible to quickly decipher what the intended message is. This is why people affected often struggle with reading and writing.
Given that reading and writing are the basis of all education, this makes it incredibly difficult to keep up. Oftentimes, children and even young adults do not understand this struggle and in return treat those affected poorly. Dysgraphia relates to the connection between the ideas and thoughts in your mind and the way they are communicated outwardly. This combined with dyslexia makes it where a person is constantly having to battle to perform in school and in life. I personally was diagnosed with both of these conditions in early elementary school and had to attend special classes to learn how to train my brain to read and write properly. I would work with activity books and color coded activities to learn how to decipher different components in my brain. I am excited to use my story and platform to further advocate for this cause and challenge every person across Florida to be more inclusive and understanding. Now imagine, if you had to read the words in this image everyday, you would grow exhausted. So why not be a supportive friend and teammate for anyone with dyslexia and dysgraphia. |
